In His Letters you write back, and your reply becomes part of what he responds to next. Writing back is always optional.
You can write back to a letter, up to 300 characters, until his next one is written (usually the next morning). There is one reply per letter. A letter can be answered until the next one is written, and a letter that can no longer be answered says so.
Tap one of three opening lines and make it yours. They are plain text the reader can change, and tapping one sends nothing.
We keep your replies so the next letter can answer them. To write your letters, the name you give and your replies are sent to Anthropic's AI. The app asks for your agreement before anything is sent, and Anthropic is not permitted to use them to train its models.
Each reply is compared, on your phone and on our server, against a short list of specific phrases about suicide, self-harm, or abuse. If a reply reads as a crisis, the support sheet opens before it is sent; closing the sheet sends the reply. The check recognizes only particular phrases. In the app, “Need support right now?” shows crisis resources at any time, and it works even offline.
If you leave two letters unopened, the next one waits until you open one.
